A little girl explains the different kinds of story that her two dads read to her and her relationship with them in this charming rhyming picture book written by Gareth Peter and illustrated by Garry Parsons.  The book conveys the power of stories but also the different kinds of families that exist out there and how what’s really important is being loved and know that there are people who are there for you.

I found this a genuinely charming book that really gets across the love that this family have for each other and how cared for the unnamed little girl feels.  The pages where she talks about the adventures the stories takes her on are beautifully illustrated and I liked how both dads play a part.  The later pages where she talks about how her dads adopted her and how they’re always there for her are also very moving and I did chuckle at the illustration where she looks less than thrilled at being given vegetables for dinner.  The rhyming text works pretty well and makes it easy for little ones to join in with parents.  The only real criticism I have is that the book talks about different types of families as having two mummies or a mum and a dad but there’s no mention of children who have just a mummy or just a daddy and while it is difficult with pictures books to capture everything but just a nod would have been nice because single parents rock too.

Other than that I thought this was a genuinely charming and moving picture book that any child would enjoy having read to them, but especially those with two dads.
