Productivity – Get Motivated, Get Organised And Get Things Done by Gill Hasson

The Blurb On The Back:

Get things done in a way that works best for you.

Do you want to get more done with less stress?  Being productive involves finding your own rhythm and getting things done in a way that works best for you; according to your circumstances, your skills and abilities, and the time, energy and resources you have.

Develop your own productivity mindset with a positive, adaptable and flexible approach.

Personal development author Gill Hasson shares her approach to personal productivity – helping you determine what works best for you in prioritising your goals, managing your time and organising your life.  Productivity will help you:

  • Identify what’s stopping you from being more productive
  • Balance your work and personal life
  • Plan your time more purposefully
  • Identify the best time of day to get things done
  • Manage difficulties, stress and setbacks`

Rather than work harder, work smarter.  Productivity show you how!  It explains how to get things done efficiently and effectively on your own terms and in your own way.

The Review (Cut For Spoilers):

Gill Hasson is a personal development trainer and writer, focusing on confidence, self-esteem, communication, assertiveness and resilience.  In this handy book, which combines practical tips with common sense, she provides a guide for improving productivity by prioritising goals and managing time with a view to helping readers to work smarter rather than harder.

I picked this up because I’d read a previous book by Hasson on positive thinking, which I’d found very useful.  This book takes the same approach of combining practical tips with some academic insights from psychologists (which I find more reassuring than those self-help writers who merely quote each other) and each chapter ends with a useful summary of what’s been covered.  There is some overlap with her positive thinking book (especially in the chapter on dealing with setbacks) but I found that useful as it reinforces some of the practical tips within that book.

I’ve read a number of books on productivity over the last year or so and the tips and techniques here overlap with them, but Hasson writes in a clear and easy to understand way without being patronising.  She’s particularly good at emphasising that there’s no single silver bullet for improving your productivity but rather it’s a matter of finding what works for you.  Also good are the chapters on managing difficulties and set backs and dealing with other people because she makes a point of addressing how sometimes you feel inadequate when you’re not getting done what you should and how to tackle that.

If you’re looking for a book to help you rethink how you’re approaching your productivity and give you some tips on how to improve it, then this is a good place to start.
