The Review (Cut For Spoilers):

Little Miss Lucky has just got engaged and just wants a simple wedding with a few friends and no fuss.  But Little Miss Lucky’s mum and bridesmaids have other ideas and it’s not long before Little Miss Wise has started preparing detailed timetables, Little Miss Naughty is ordering lots of naughty hen party items and Little Miss Lucky’s mum is talking big hats and lots and lots of vol-au-vents …

Based on the beloved children’s book characters drawn and created by Roger Hargreaves, this picture book has been specially written for grown-ups by Sarah Daykin, Lizzie Daykin and Liz Bankes and although I found the humour a little forced and based on traditional hen party clichés and the story’s a little dull, it would still be a decent novelty gift for a bride-to-be although I wouldn’t rush to check out the others in the series.

There’s a bit of a bandwagon going at the moment in the novelty books market with Ladybird and the Famous Five brands being used to produce “grown up” humorous versions and this Little Miss book is part of that trend.  There’s fun to be had from seeing the familiar characters on the pages and even though the illustrations don’t put them in naughty situations, they do work well with the text.  The story itself is a bit too cliché for my tastes but it’s entertaining to see the different characters react to situations in the way you’d expect and it rolls on through at a decent pace.

Ultimately the book is targeted as a gift for brides-to-be and it does that job in a perfectly okay manner, but I wouldn’t rush to check out the others in the series.
